Our Policies

Our Mission

To help animals and their humans to work together to keep animals with their families, by helping humans better understand and meet their pet's physical and emotional needs. We work closely with veterinary, training, and alternative medicine practioners to best meet these needs. We also believe that our expert services should be available to all, at an affordable price.

Our Philosophy

We believe that the mind, body and spirit are all one, and all influence an animal's behavior.

We utilize a wide rage of tools, owner education, nutritional therapy, aromatherapy, acupressure, herbal support, positive reinforcement and re-direction training, to create a behavioral and emotionally healthy animal and strengthen the relationship between humans and animals.

Our Core Belief

As humans, we have taken dogs from their out of their natural environment, taken control of their breeding practices, environment and purpose. We essentially orphan them at 8-10 weeks of age, and expect them to serve our physical and emotional needs. They are completely dependent of humans for their health-physical, mental and emotional. It is our responsibility for not only providing them with food, water, shelter, and medical care; but providing them the opportunity to learn and grow mentally and to feel secure emotionally.

As social creatures, dogs require a stable and easily understandable social structure in order to thrive. We believe that humans can best provide this social structure by mimicking the natural canine social structure. We also believe that dogs (and humans) learn best from other dogs, which is why we utilize our 4-legged staff extensively in our educational /behavior modification process.

Most behavioral problems are created by unnatural breeding and rearing practices, unrealistic expectations, unclear boundaries, and conflicting social cues. Human education is a large part of understanding and altering these behavioral issues. Happy dogs and happy families are created through understanding, compassion and mutual respect. We strive to create and encourage practices that create and strengthen this understanding, compassion and mutual respect.

Our Staff-

Our behavior counselors and support staff undergo a minimum of 1year classroom and hands-on training with us, as well as a required minimum of 6 continuing education hours per year. They must pass a criminal background check and are insured and bonded.

Our 4-legged staff members udergo extensive training and demonstrate extreme patience and self control when working with other animals. They also enjoy plenty of down time and "extracurricular activities".

Policy Statement

CANCELLATION POLICY-We require 24 hours notice to cancel any consultation/training session. Appointments cancelled without 24 hours (prior to appointment time) will be charged a $70 cancellation fee regardless of the price of the session. We do not routinely make reminder calls or emails. Remembering your appointment time is your responsibility. Once an appointment is cancelled, it can NOT be reinstated, if you change your mind. As soon as a cancellation is received, appropriate staff members are notified and that time slot is offered to other clients.

GROUP CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY-Missed classes will result in a forfeit of money paid for those classes, regardless if notice is given. One makeup class per session will be scheduled. No other makeup classes or options will be offered. A request for other makeup options may be made ONLY at the time of registration for the class.

RESCHEDULING POLICY-We understand that life sometimes changes and will accommodate requests to reschedule appointments with at least 24 hours notice. Appointments will only be rescheduled for free once! Multiple requests to reschedule an appointment will result in a $10 reschedule fee.

PAYMENT POLICY-Payment is required at time of service, or at time of registration for classes. Cash, Personal Check, Master Card, Visa and Discover are accepted. Returned checks will be charged a $25 fee, plus 5% interest for each 30 days after notification.

REFUND POLICY-No refunds will be given for any service already rendered or classes already attended. An account credit may be issued for unused or partially used retail items or pre-paid services at the discretion of Canine Behavior Counseling..

CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY-Canine Behavior Counseling respects and protects the confidentiality of our clients. We do not share names, addresses or any other information about our clients with anyone else without your expressed permission. CBC does submit a copy of all behavior consultation reports to your veterinarian, as part of our service.

COURTESY POLICY- We pride ourselves on our ethical and professional conduct. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation or for any other reason. Our services are open to all. Disrespectful, racist, sexist or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated from representatives or clients. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE OR TERMINATE SERVICE to anyone who violates this or any of our stated policies.
