Our Mission

To help animals and their humans to work together to keep animals with their families, by helping humans better understand and meet their pet's physical and emotional needs. We work closely with veterinary, training, and alternative medicine practitioners to best meet these needs. We also believe that our expert services should be available to all, at an affordable price.

Our Philosophy

We believe that the mind (including brain chemistry), body and spirit (emotion) are all one, and all influence an animal's behavior. There is no such thing as good or bad animals or good or bad behavior, only behavior that is appropriate or inappropriate for the given situation.

We utilize a wide rage of tools, owner education, nutritional therapy, aromatherapy, acupressure, herbal support, positive reinforcement and re-direction training, to create a behavioral and emotionally healthy animal and strengthen the relationship between humans and animals.

We believe that every tool in the "trainer's toolbox" has a legitimate purpose and application. Each tool should be used according to the needs of the animal, its handler and the situation. No tool or piece of equipment is "bad" or cruel in itself. It is only the use or more accurately misuse of equipment that causes physical or emotionally injury to animals.

We utilize the philosophy that all actions must elicit some type of reaction-undesired behavior must be corrected in an appropriate way (mostly often verbally) just as desirable behavior is rewarded in an appropriate manner.

Our Core Belief

As humans, we have taken dogs from their out of their natural environment, taken control of their breeding practices, environment and purpose. We essentially orphan them at 8-10 weeks of age, and expect them to serve our physical and emotional needs. They are completely dependent on humans for their health-physical, mental and emotional. It is our responsibility  to not only provide them with food, water, shelter, and medical care; but provide them the opportunity to learn and grow mentally and to feel secure emotionally.

As social creatures, dogs require a stable and easily understandable social structure in order to thrive. We believe that humans can best provide this social structure by mimicking the natural canine social structure. We also believe that dogs (and humans) learn best from other dogs, which is why we utilize our 4-legged staff extensively in our educational /behavior modification process.

Most behavioral problems are created by unnatural breeding and rearing practices, unrealistic expectations, unclear boundaries, and conflicting social cues. Human education is a large part of understanding and altering these behavioral issues. Happy dogs and happy families are created through understanding, compassion and mutual respect. We strive to create and encourage practices that create and strengthen this understanding, compassion and mutual respect.

Our Staff-

Our behavior counselors and support staff undergo a minimum of 1 year classroom and hands-on training with us, as well as a required minimum of 6 continuing education hours per year. They must pass a criminal background check and are insured and bonded.

Our 4-legged staff members undergo extensive training and demonstrate extreme patience and self control when working with other animals. They also enjoy plenty of down time and "extracurricular activities".

Policy Statement

CANCELLATION POLICY-We require 24 hours notice to cancel any consultation/training session. Appointments cancelled without 24 hours (prior to appointment time) will be charged the full price of the scheduled session. We do not routinely make reminder calls or emails. Remembering your appointment time is your responsibility. Once an appointment is cancelled, it can NOT be reinstated, if you change your mind. As soon as a cancellation is received, appropriate staff members are notified and that time slot is offered to other clients.

RESCHEDULING POLICY-We understand that life sometimes changes and will accommodate requests to reschedule appointments with at least 24 hours notice. Appointments will only be rescheduled for free once! Multiple requests to reschedule an appointment will result in a $10 reschedule fee.

PAYMENT POLICY-Payment is required at time of service, or at time of registration for classes. cash, personal check, and all major credit cards. Returned checks will be charged a $25 fee, plus 5% interest for each 30 days after notification.

REFUND POLICY-No refunds will be given . An account credit may be issued for unused or partially used retail items or pre-paid services at the discretion of Canine Behavior Counseling..

CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY-Canine Behavior Counseling respects and protects the confidentiality of our clients. We do not share names, addresses or any other identifying information about our clients with anyone else without your expressed permission. CBC does submit a copy of all behavior consultation reports to your veterinarian, as part of our service.

COURTESY POLICY- We pride ourselves on our ethical and professional conduct. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation or for any other reason. Our services are open to all. Disrespectful, racist, sexist or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated from representatives or clients. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE OR TERMINATE SERVICE to anyone who violates this or any of our stated policies.

Control: I understand that bringing animals together in any setting presents potential health and safety risks. Although all reasonable care will be taken to protect the safety and health of myself and my animal; I agree to release Canine Behavior Counseling from any and all liabilities. I agree to control my animal at all times, except when the instructor has physical control of said animal, and to follow all verbal instructions given to me by the instructor.
Vaccines/Health: I state that my animal is current on vaccinations for distemper, parvo-virus, and rabies, as age appropriate. If my animal shows any signs of illness, I will not bring my animal to class. I am aware that even with vaccination these and other disease may be present in class locations. I release Canine Behavior Counseling and its agents from any liability if my animal becomes ill after attending this class.
Registration Deadline/Payment: I understand that class registration closes 48 hours before class, and payment must be received at the time of registration. Payments can no longer be accepted at the time of class.
Missed/Makeup Classes: I understand that only 1 makeup class is scheduled for each session. Any missed classes,regardless of the reason and/or whether or not notification is given, may be forfeit with no other option to makeup the class or any refund of monies. If I must miss a class, I agree to give Canine/Feline Behavior Counseling at least 2 hours notice, before the start of class. It is at the discretion of Canine/Feline Behavior Counseling whether I will be allowed to make-up or receive credit for the missed class, outside of the already scheduled makeup class. I further understand and agree that one (1) no show without prior notice of at least 2 hours will result in myself and my animal being removed from the remainder of the class session without refund or recourse.
